![]() Interior accommodations are spacious and the materials chosen are durable, but those buyers seeking modern-day convenience features such as power-adjustable seats, push-button start, and blind-spot monitoring will want to avoid the entry-level model. The RAV4's square-jawed looks are inspired by the 4Runner SUV and Tacoma pickup truck, but its car-based construction delivers a smoother ride than either of those trucks. Front-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is optional on the LE, XLE, XLE Premium, and Limited, and standard on the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models. No matter which trim you choose, the RAV4 comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic. The base LE covers the economical end of the spectrum while the well-equipped Limited and TRD Off-Road models offer impressive amounts of equipment aimed at two very different types of buyers. The Sport Hybrid doesn’t sacrifice much in terms of performance or dollar value, and delivers significantly improved fuel economy.From spartan to swanky to outdoorsy, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 offers something for almost everyone. The top-line Advance Entertainment version is a bit pricey for what it offers, but the Base and Technology models deliver lots of safety, convenience, and luxury features at reasonable-for-the-class prices. Still, this Acura deserves a top spot on your shopping list. Rear-seat room and comfort are not exceptional, and there are a few complicated controls. The MDX drives and handles exceptionally well and boasts a quiet, refined cabin. The RDX is Acura’s 5-passenger compact SUV, and it’s redesigned for 2019. MDXs with the Advance Package have an auto start/stop feature that bumps their city number up by 1 mpg in both FWD and AWD models. The EPA rates the MDX at 19 mpg city/27 highway with front drive and 18/26 with AWD. The original (non-hybrid) 2018 MDX has a 3.5-liter direct injection V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 lb.-ft of torque. For the price range, it’s one of the most sought-after SUVs for the year. Acura says that the new system has more intuitive menus and a 30 percent faster response time. The Acura MDX and MDX Sport Hybrid are SUVs with the feel of luxury but without an excessively steep price tag. The MDX lineup gets an updated dual-screen infotainment interface with a new capacitive touchscreen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality. The MDX is one of the lightest vehicles in its segment, checking in at a couple hundred pounds less than some two-row, 5-passenger crossovers. The AcuraWatch suite of safety equipment is standard on all MDXs it includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed-follow functionality, forward collision-mitigation system, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist. Base MDXs have a fairly high level of standard equipment, including leather upholstery, heated power front seats, power liftgate, sunroof, rearview camera, keyless entry/starting, and LED headlights. The hybrid system’s total horsepower output is 325, an increase of 35 hp over the regular MDX. A Sport Hybrid version is also available-it uses a 3.0-liter V6 engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission with an integrated electric motor powering the front wheels, and two more electric motors powering the rear wheels. All are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission with a push-button gear selector. ![]() Trim levels (which Acura handles like option packages) ascend through entry-level Base, volume Technology, more feature-rich Technology with Entertainment, and top-line Advance and Advance with Entertainment.
